WHAT IS COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY?
Counselling psychologists deal with a wide range of mental health problems concerning life issues including bereavement, domestic violence, sexual abuse, traumas and relationship issues. They understand diagnosis and the medical context to mental health problems and work with the individual’s unique subjective psychological experience to empower their recovery and alleviate distress". http://careers.bps.org.uk/area/counselling
Chartered Counselling Psychologists train for a minimum of six years in order to deliver interventions with a high level of competence. There are generic standards of proficiency that a psychologist must be adhered to, alongside profession specific standards.
HOW DOES REMOTE THERAPY WORK?
Online and phone therapy works in a similar way to face-to-face therapy, with the exception of being able to access this from your own home. All you will need is some privacy, a computer or phone with webcam facilities and a stable internet connection. Sessions remain private and secure and will not be recorded.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL SESSION LOOK LIKE?
Sessions last for 50 minutes.
The first session will be an initial assessment. During this time we will gather information about the difficulties you would like some help with, as well as your hopes for therapy. From this, we will have a better understanding of your difficulties/problems and which therapeutic approach would be best for your needs. We can then proceed with standard sessions on a weekly basis.
CAN I PAY FOR THE SESSIONS VIA MY INSURANCE POLICY?
Yes, you may be able to cover the cost of your therapy sessions via your insurance policy. Please check with your provider to inquire about your coverage for psychological services.
An authorisation number is required before therapy can proceed. Please note that insurance claims and excess or outstanding fees remain your responsibility/the policyholders’ responsibility. In addition, cancellation fees cannot be charged to insurance companies, and you will be personally responsible for any cancellation fees incurred.
HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?
Therapy can be as long or short as needed, depending on the individual’s circumstances. Therapy might take place for a relatively short number of sessions (8-12) or may be ongoing (for several months long). However, your length of time in therapy is entirely up to you, and you can end therapy at a time that feels most comfortable for you.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS OR CANCEL A SESSION?
If more than two cancellations occur within a six-month period (except for illness/emergency-related cancellations) – this will lead to a discharge from therapy.
A 48-hour notice for cancellations is required. Cancellations beyond 48 hours or missed sessions incur a session fee.
It always seems impossible until it's done.
